This afternoon, October 6, Tuesday we had lunch first at a typical country Osteria after leaving Verona. As our driver walked us from the car to the inn he told us that at this place they ate things that might seem “unusual” to us like horse and donkey. I thought he was joking, but not so!
The place was very nice and we had beef but we saw the other things on the menu.
Next we were off to the Tommasi Winery where we did a tour with just the two of us and the director of marketing. The winery is one of the premier makers of Amarone wine, a rich Veneto wine made of dried grapes and with 30 percent alcohol content. The Tommasi make many other varieties including a trademark dessert wine and grappa.. The marketing director did a good job after our wine tasting because we left with several bottles..
Our last stop of the day was at Sirmione on Lake Garda, Italy’s largest lake. The town is entered via a medieval castle and moat and is absolutely beautiful, and full of German tourists (even though it’s past the season) and gelato places (good any time!). After a short exploration we were back on our way to Venice with our driver Stefano.
