I'm posting this a few days after getting home. Time just got away from me. There were errands to do and I just didn't get around to this. The flights home were uneventful but one of my suitcases took a detour and didn't come home until some time in the middle of the night. Now it's time to think about Christmas.
November 28 - At Sea on the way to Miami
Yesterday and today have been sea days as we make our way to Miami and the end of the cruise. I don’t know where the time has gone. These past two days I have accomplished nothing worth writing about, so this post will be boring. Of course my team played trivia (we lost) and my friends and I have done plenty of eating and drinking and relaxing. I did go this afternoon to a talk by a geologist who has been on two research projects to Antarctica and who will be on my cruise there in January. I’m more excited than ever about going! The pictures she showed during her talk were amazing.
We’ve been sailing through totally flat seas for two days. It’s like being in a bathtub. With no breeze it has also been very warm out on the open decks. I sat on my veranda for about ten minutes yesterday (I have the sun in the afternoon) and had to come inside because I felt like I was broiling. There are some very red people walking around. I have found that many British and other European people love to bake in the sun. The Aussies and many of us Americans not so much.
This has been a very nice cruise with a few glitches. It is apparently the first Seabourn cruise since Covid hit that is essentially full. Much of the staff is new and inexperienced and so the service has not been quite up to snuff. Hopefully as they get more on the job training the little kinks will work out.
November 29 - Miami
It’s Tuesday morning now and I’m waiting to get off the ship. Last night my friends and I dined in a restaurant that was serving some special fried chicken I’ve been reading about for years but have never had the opportunity to try because it takes a special fryer which not all of the ships have had. I have to say it blew us all away. It was just about the best fried chicken any of us had ever tasted. Wow!
I’m sorry to end this blog on such a boring note, but absolutely nothing exciting has happened. It’s hard to believe that Christmas is only a little over three and a half weeks away and in less than two months I’ll be off again to South America and Antarctica.
I have two final trivia questions for you. 1) What is the national animal of Scotland? 2) What is the name of the little blue bird that is the emblem of Twitter? Our answers were wrong and what we really wanted to say was that the answers were “Who cares?”
Here they are so you don’t have to wait a couple of months for them. Scotland’s national animal is the unicorn. The twitter bird is Larry, an homage to the basketball player Larry Bird. I know I’ve made your day much better since you now have that information.
I love sunsets so here's one from the last sea day. Maybe somewhere back in time I was related to Monet because I love the play of light on water.
