Whoa! We have been rocking and rolling for three days now and it looks like it will be that way until we get to Melbourne tomorrow. Last night at dinner we had a tremendous thump and you could see the glasses and plates sort of jump off the tabletops. Fortunately I don’t think anything broke, but it sure got our attention.
Overnight it was so rough some of my shipmates didn’t sleep. I actually slept pretty well. Today we have winds of about 50 mph and big seas around us. I’m guessing they’re maybe 15 to 18 feet. At noon the captain reported that we are supposed to be at the pilot station for Melbourne at 4 AM tomorrow morning but we’re not going to make it. Instead he estimates it will be closer to 7 AM which means all tours will have to be adjusted.
I’m fortunate in that I don’t get seasick, but I can tell you that my leg muscles are getting a real workout. It’s impossible to walk in a straight line. We all look like we’ve had a little too much to drink. Going to breakfast and lunch was especially interesting.
I have sad news to report. Our trivia team blew it today. 😢 We were way in the lead but we managed to miss enough questions that we finished in second place by just one question. We didn’t get the Seabourn umbrella that was the prize. (I brought one with me and I have at least two more at home, so I wasn’t really devastated.) We have ten people on the team and it was interesting that for every question at least one person proposed the correct answer, but the consensus went to an alternate one. Oh well, it is only a game. Now if the prize was a free cruise it would be a different story.
I went out on an aft deck to try to get a couple of pictures of the seas. They aren’t very good but maybe they’ll give a little sense of what we’re sailing through.

You are a very good cruiser! You and your fellow cruisers will be glad to get to some land! I’m sure Seabourn will take very good care of you! They certainly did take care of me when I experienced the rocking and rolling years ago.
