We’ve made it to Heathrow. After a slight delay because someone evidently violated
restricted airspace in the DC area we departed and had a great flight across
the Atlantic. We didn’t even have
to do lots of figure eights over London waiting to land. It looks like a picture perfect day
here but we don’t have time to go into the city. Maybe next time!
More October 2 -
We boarded our BA flight to Athens, doors were closed and then we
waited. Someone had checked a bag
but not boarded the plane. The
baggage handlers went in the hold and searched until they found the appropriate
suitcase and removed it. Hurray!
We can go now. We taxied out and
made a circle around the taxiways. It seems our flight
plan took us through airspace that
would be closed by the time we got there since we’d missed our slot. Having read too many spy novels and
thrillers we surmised that we might be in the area where some fighters might be
refueling or doing whatever.
Anyway another half hour or so followed while we sat somewhere on the
tarmac. Eventually it was all
sorted out and we were off.
We arrived in Athens a little more than an hour late but our
wonderful driver Alex was waiting to whisk us off to the Hotel Grande
Bretagne. What a wonderful
hotel. It’s across the street
from the Parliament Building and
the National Gardens and less than a block from the new shopping district and a
few blocks from the Plaka.
We were exhausted, so after a light dinner we crashed. The bed felt like heaven!
Tomorrow we’ll be ready to take on Athens. No photos today. There was nothing to see but T-5 at
Heathrow.
