November 30 - Water, Water Everywhere

We’re on our third of six days at sea on our way from Long Beach to Hawaii. I’ve described the routine I fall into on these days.  I stay busy but accomplish little.  One of the things I do a lot of at home but haven’t done at all here is read.  A lot of my reading at home is done late at night in bed.  Here I find that after I go to the Club and dance a little, I have no appetite for reading.  I need to start doing better.

Over the last two days elves have been busy on the ship getting her decorated for Christmas.  Poinsettias appeared after we sailed from Long Beach.  Then a couple of Christmas trees made an appearance – just little ones at the moment.  Yesterday the spiral staircase in the atrium was decked out with lights on the railings around all nine decks.  From photos I’ve seen in the past I know there is much more to come.

We began our next series of cumulative trivia again at noon.  We have a new name – the Azerbaijani Coast Guard – which sometime if I’ve had a little to drink I’ll explain how we came to choose that name.  You had to be there to understand; otherwise it just sounds weird.  The new name hasn’t helped our performance, but we tell ourselves we have time to make up ground.

Last night I had dinner in Solis with four friends including John and Alexandra who I first met in Santiago, Chile nearly two years ago at the Ritz Carlton Hotel when we were getting ready to board this very ship to go to Antarctica , the Amazon, and other exotic and distant places.  I hadn’t seen them since then and it was such a pleasant surprise to see them in LA.  I’ve become an organizer of group dinners because I’ve discovered that I’ve got a knack for negotiating with the people who make the schedules for the alternative restaurant where you have to have a reservation.

After dinner I usually go to the shows which start at 9:30 PM. Unfortunately, or maybe not, the last two nights we’ve had way too much fun at dinner and lingered far too long to make it. I don’t think any of us have any regrets though.  I along with my friends still get invitations for dinner with a staff member or entertainer every night, but we’ve been declining and making our own tables.  I think we may be getting a reputation for being the wild bunch because we’ve been last to leave the restaurant each night.  Who would have thought that of a group of seasoned ladies?

It’s afternoon now and I have a trivia question for you to ponder.  One of the questions today was what is “coprastastaphobia” a fear of?  I will give you a clue and tell you it isn’t the fear of falling coconuts which is what we and several other teams guessed.  We did manage to do quite well today despite that answer and finished in first place for the day!

Hopefully all the turkeys were tasty on Thanksgiving and Black Friday shopping trips were successful.  Here on the  Quest we had a delicious traditional Thanksgiving dinner.  We even had leftover turkey at the buffet yesterday in case anyone wanted a turkey sandwich.  We tried to persuade the people running the fine jewelry shop to run Black Friday specials but they didn’t bite for that.

Well, it’s time to go to a class on how to edit and photoshop photos taken on an iPhone.  I want to learn that so I can perhaps figure out how to eliminate a few years and pounds from pictures with me in them.  Aloha for now!  (I’m getting into Hawaiian mode.)

Back from class.  These are my first two attempts at photo-editing on my iPhone.  Wow, what she can do with her photos is amazing!
