October 24 - Miss Kitty came through for us

Today is another sea day as we make our way to Halifax, Nova Scotia.  I like days like this because aside from Trivia there’s absolutely nothing I must do.  No photos today.  A foggy vista isn't worth posting.

Last night I dined with some new friends I’ve met, a lovely couple from Idaho.  I think they may be the first people I’ve ever met from Idaho.  We had a drink before dinner in the Club and then went to the restaurant after seven.  That was nice for a change.  I don’t really like the earlier hosted tables, although I think I and a few other solos have complained enough that they are scheduling some at 7PM.  Anyway, I had a nice time with them.  The food has been pretty good; I wouldn’t call it outstanding, but I haven’t had anything I couldn’t eat.

After dinner I went to the show, the second performance by the Broadway singer Christine.  She’s very good, but for some of my fellow passengers she’s too “dramatic.”  I don’t think that’s the exact word I’m looking for but it’s the best I can do.  She did finish with a song I really like, Send in the Clowns, but she isn’t Judy Collins and I couldn’t help but compare. After the show I went to the Club for a while.  The music has definitely improved and is more dance music in the late hours and less jazz.  I stayed until around 11:30 PM and called it a night.  I had gotten up before dawn so I was kind of pooped.

Today the sun has left us and we’re running through fog.  Periodically the foghorn gives a blast.  I haven’t been outside but I think it’s in the 50’s.  I tried to get some writing done this morning but got sidetracked talking to friends.  Noon brought Trivia time.  Miss Kitty came through for us and we won commandingly!  Today’s bonus question was tricky but we figured it out.  Here it is if you want to try your luck.  Here are three sets of words that form sequences.  The task is to come up with the fourth word to complete each sequence.  1) Mars, Jupiter, Saturn  …..?   2) Pearl, Coral, Ruby …..?   and 3) Home, Brain, Heart  …..?   100 points if you get the three correct answers.

I should say something about the shops onboard.  This size ship has two, one sells expensive jewelry and watches and the other sells some clothing, costume jewelry, beauty products and a few everyday necessities like a mini drugstore. Apparently whichever company had the contract for the second shop lost it because the store has mainly bare shelves and what’s left is on sale.  There wasn’t a thing that I wanted.  The fine jewelry shop will also be changing later on during my cruise.  Thus, the inventory there is a little limited too.  Actually, that’s a good thing because there’s not much temptation.

That’s about it for my not so exciting day.  Tonight I’ve got dinner with Christine, the Broadway singer, and the ship’s entertainment group is doing a new show that involves Beatles and some other groups.  If they are as good as they were the other night, it should be enjoyable.  So, bye for now.

My guesses are 1) Uranus, 2) sapphire, and 3) courage. I could easily be wrong!
